The renovation of this single-family home in Zurich reveals the existing qualities of the house and develops them through contemporary interior architecture. From the existing structure emerges a home that feels calmer, clearer and more closely connected to the everyday life of its residents.
The cast-iron staircase becomes a defining element of the interior architecture. It connects the levels, guides the eye and turns movement through the house into a deliberate part of the living experience. Its compact spiral form shows how functional details can develop character when material, precision and proportion are carefully balanced.
The open-plan living areas draw their effect from generous spatial sequences, precisely integrated lighting coves and a restrained material palette. Finely crafted timber structures, natural stone and reduced fittings give the bathroom an atmosphere of calm, functionality and residential quality.
The garden is inspired by the clarity of a Zen garden. A small pond, carefully placed planting and a restrained design create a private retreat in the heart of Zurich.
